2021 Boiler Market Trends and Forecast Series: Part 1
In light of an ever-changing marketplace driven by an increasing demand for greater levels of energy efficiency, a number of key trends are emerging to shape the future of boiler systems. The following is part one of a two part series on our forecast for these upcoming trends.
Boiler systems are the preferred method for domestic hot water heating because of their low fuel consumption and high-energy efficiency. A report from Global Market Insights forecasts the U.S boiler market to reach $4.5 billion by 2025. As the market grows, here are some key trends to look for in the coming years:
Wider acceptance of Condensing boilers
In the last decade the boiler market has seen a shift from traditional non-condensing boiler designs towards condensing units. In the coming years it is expected that this trend will continue to expand. The main draw of these designs is greater efficiency stemming from a lower operating temperature driven by Department of Energy regulations. With greater concern for their environmental impact and the higher energy costs, the majority of new installations will use high-efficiency condensing boilers.
Smart Controls and Remote Connectivity
Touch screen controls, better diagnostics, service reminders, and remote monitoring technology are increasingly being incorporated into boiler designs. Part of this development is driven by the desire for greater boiler efficiency. Manufacturers are implementing new tools that will allow for a better understanding of achieving optimal boiler efficiency.
The second driving force behind these new technologies is the demand for remote capabilities in diagnostics and control. As building managers are getting more tech savvy, they are beginning to rely on new tools like Raypak’s Raymote ™ Control technology. With the ability to remotely monitor boilers and access real time service notifications, these tools promise to aid in decision making with the ultimate result of cost saving improvements and reduced downtimes.
As the larger trend of Internet of Things (IOT) connectivity permeates the appliances we use on a daily basis, you can expect that boiler manufactures will continue to adopt these new technologies.
